Meeting in Munich last February with Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, the Israeli delegation was informed that the Palestinians would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state, the one demand made by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during the recent peace negotiations. But if that wasn’t enough, the delegation was stunned when Erekat claimed that his family has a greater claim to the land than do the Jews. “I am the proud son of the Canaanites who were there 5,500 years before Joshua bin Nun burned down the town of Jericho!” said Erekat adding, “This is my narrative!” In fact, Erekat is part of a family of Arabs who migrated to the area from Saudi Arabia. He was born in Abu Dis, a village near Jerusalem.
